Hey guys, long time no see. I need help deciding between these two classes for Spring quarter.
I am going to assume 127 (Inorganic Chem 2) is pretty similar to Inorganic 1. Inorganic is pretty simple to understand stuff, is 2 the same? I don't want to take it if its some huge jump in difficulty like say...Pchem 130a to b.
I have no idea of the difficulty of 138 (Computational Organic Chemistry) but the description of the class makes it sound semi easy/fun. The thing with that is it has a 4 hour lab, I'm assuming on the computer so not too bad.
Can anybody chime in on the difficulty of these classes? Any essays/reports in either of them?
While I'm at it, anybody take the Radioactive Isotopes lab? Need that in the Fall..

Yo, nice to hear from another chem major.
I took 127 cause I liked 107. I had it with prof. farmer who is gone now I believe. All he did was talk about stuff related to his research, which was boring and wasn't anything like chem 107. I'm SURE if you have a different professor you will learn completely different stuff. As you've noticed, the upper div chem classes are very subjective to who is teaching them (ie different teachers teach totally different things in the same course). So I'd say take it, cause I hate organic, and fuck labs, haha.
DEFINITELY TAKE RADIOCHEM! Best course in my major for sure. And the lab is one of the only labs I enjoyed (and the reports were easy).

Cool thanks for the info, i was hoping that the course would have a general syllabus. 107 isnt bad, i have it now with Arasassingham. I didn't hate organic, but the computer organic lab seems interesting. something about measuring structures on computer programs and other things. we'll see..
and easy reports for radiochem eh? easier than 151? i am possibly the worst when it comes to doing reports, and just cannot get them done. is the lecture a real class with midterms and finals as well? or is it more to expand the info for the lab? just wondering how much time this class will take

No where near what analytical lab was (fucking ridiculous).

Idk if its the same/still around, but chemical pharmacology is a super easy class that knocks out an UD lab and lec requirement for the same # of hours of work as radiochem. Plus the teacher was way chill and would have made a good PI if you still need that.

Forgot I made this thread for some advice... Looking into Chem Pharmacology, but i dont see it under any of the categories. Do you remember the class number? I took Medicinal Chemistry with Luptak, is that it? Hated that class.
Still can't decide between 138, 137, and 127. Has anybody taken 137? Computational Chemistry? Whats the difficulty? The fact that Pchem is a corequisite kind of worried me that it may be similar material and a pain in the ass...

I was in it the first time it was offered, so maybe it was easier/different, but either way it offered a neat glimpse into how pharma works that I dont get in med school.

Lol i didnt like her at all. She was having way too much fun with the microscope and letting us trudge through the botched and redundant protocol. She can sit through my histology class and see if she still wants to look at fucking cells and shit out of her own free will then.

I feel robbed that I didn't get to use a microscope in my entire bachelor of SCIENCE degree process.

I didnt really get to either. But for chem its understandable--wtf are you going to look at with a light microscope?
